Ice dams are expensive.

Traditional solutions are wasteful.

Ice dams cause expensive roof and water damage

When ice dams form, they cause an average of over $11,000 in damages to roofs, gutters, and interiors. A single winter storm can lead to dangerous mold or expensive emergency repairs.

Traditional heat cables waste energy and money

Traditional systems use crude temperature triggers and often run continuously during winter, wasting energy when conditions don't require de-icing, costing hundreds or thousands of dollars a year.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a subscription plan?

No, but we are confident that it will save you money. Without the Annual or Lifetime plans, your device will run on a duty cycle frequency and time that you select. You can also turn your device on/off manually whenever needed. This is better than most traditional heat cables, but is not as efficient as the Annual or Lifetime plans. The paid plans use 24/7 forecast monitoring, estimate the snow load on your roof, take into account the direction of your roof exposure, and more. We are so confident in the value of the paid plans that we have a 'Savings Guarantee' where we will refund your Annual Plan subscription amount if you don't save more than $49 per season, compared to a traditional heat cable system. The Savings Gurantee does not apply to the Lifetime plan.

Does a subscription plan cover all my properties and devices?

A single subscription will cover up to 5 properties (e.g. home + cabin + rental property) and up to 10 MeltLogic devices per property. All properties and devices can be conveniently controlled from a single app on your smart phone.

How much will I save with a MeltLogic plan vs. a traditional system?

A lot. Check out the Savings Estimator tool above for more details on your location. It is common for MeltLogic systems to pay for themselves through savings in a matter of months or just a couple seasons when compared to an always-on or temperature-only based system! However, the exact amount depends on a number of factors including your climate, the length of heat cables you have, your utility rates, and the settings you customize in the app. Generally, the colder your climate, the longer your cables, and the higher your utility rates, the more savings you will see. Some users have saved over $1,200/season in energy costs with the MeltLogic Smart Controller and Annual/Lifetime subscription plan! We are so confident in the value of the Annual plan that we have a Savings Guarantee where we will refund your $49/year subscription if you don't save more than $49 per season, compared to a traditional heat cable system.

Can I use MeltLogic on my existing heat cables?

Yes! As long as your heat cables use less than 1800 watts and are connected to a 120v circuit, the system can likely be retrofitted with the MeltLogic controller. Most heat cable systems use roughly 8 watts per foot of cable. This means the MeltLogic system can handle roughly a 200ft cable run at that energy usage. However, you should confirm your cables energy usage before installation.

How does installation work?

MeltLogic Smart Controllers and cables are designed to accommodate self-installation or professional installation. MeltLogic does not provide installation, but many local contractors or roofers offer professional heat cable installation services for a fee. If you choose to install the system yourself, we suggest following one of the many online tutorials for heat cable installation. Those guides and videos will explain how to run the cable up your downspout, along your gutters, and then connect the cable to your shingles using the provided shingle clips and hangers. For roofs that do not have shingles, other hardware may be required and can be purchased from many online retailers. Compared to typical heat cable installation, the MeltLogic system only requires a few additional steps, typically taking less than 5 minutes. Once your cables are installed, simply plug in your MeltLogic Smart Controller to a 120v GFCI outlet, pair it to your app, and connect it to your cables. The remainder of the configuration is completed via the app. The entire installation process, including cables, can often be done in a couple of hours.

Will MeltLogic work with my roof type?

MeltLogic is designed to work with a number of different roof types from shingles to metal. The heat cables and controller come with clips designed for common shingled roofs. Although the system will still work on other roof types, like metal roofs, additional installation hardware or adhesives may be required. MeltLogic does not sell these items but other online retailers do.

What climates does MeltLogic support?

MeltLogic can be used in almost any climate. It works best in regions that experience winter precipitation and temperatures that fluctuate around or below freezing.

How long of a cable do I need?

Cables should be run along the bottom of your roofline in a zig zag arrangement, through gutters, and down any downspouts. Some people also need ice dam protection around dormers or roof valleys. Use our cable length calculator for an estimate. http://meltlogic.io/cablecalc Proper installation is essential for drainage. When in doubt, consult a professional.

When does it ship?

We aim to start shipping units in summer of this year (2026). This will provide customers plenty of time to have their units installed before next winter.
